Cephalotus follicularis

The Albany pitcher plant comes from the monospecific family Cephalotaceae. It comes from swamps around Albany in W.A. I'm growing it here in straight peat in a North facing window sill looking into my greenhouse. I've managed to keep it alive outside for a year or so, but eventually the snails found it and ate it.

It is fairly easy to propagate by division - this pot has an identical twin at my parents place, also in a North facing window :) The flowers are kinda interesting, but not worth the resulting slow down in plant growth. I've never managed to get seed.

I keep my plants in chinese takeaway trays which I fill up with water then let dry out completely before refilling. As you can see from this photo you can keep the pitchers growing even in winter, but you need to keep them at least partially warm (although our house doesn't realy count as 'warm').
