2Geom did very well out of this year's google summer of code, getting 2 projects under the wing of Inkscape. Peter will be mentoring Johan, and I will be mentoring Marco Cecchetti on developing more algorithms for computing geometry operations. In particular, we've started off improving support for elliptic arcs in paths:

some new curve-curve metrics (to replace the crappy L2 norm we have currently), thin plate splines on paths, tangent matching and general polish. And that's before we've even started :)
