We keep everything for future use
for cooking, for looking or cots.
Our garden is filled with a million things,
shelves, tubs and ladders and rocks.
A greenhouse slouches against the sunny north wall;
made from the bathroom shelves and locks.
The cobbled path stone from Dorset,
each pebble a lovingly laid boulder.
The kitchen tap - can't force it -
I'll have to leave dishes to moulder.
Our house is full without borders,
we stack knitting with spices and beads.
Every shelf is stacked from bottom to top;
we keep everything - yes even seeds!
Our neighbours think us just maunder,
each wall is covered with books.
In the one bare wall remaining
the picture rail is covered with hooks.
I think I should start to tidy things up,
but how?
Should I make a bookcase or tidy?
A pantry from that old rusty car?
A box?
Turn the couch into simple drying rack
(for my vast collection of socks)?
I know what to do, I need only one thing,
a glazed hypertufa pagoda.
I think I'll go off to the junkyard now:
and put in special requisition order.
